According to reports, 10 US sailors are missing after Navy missile destroyer crashed into an oil tanker near Singapore. The two vessels collided in the Malacca Strait, which is one of the most congested shipping routes according to CNN. Many people began to give their thoughts and prayers on the situation, including Vice President Mike Pence, who said “Our Armed Forces are the best of us; heroes all. Our prayers & prayers of the U.S. people are w/ our @USNavy sailors of the #USSJohnSMcCain.”

Trump’s initial response to the news of the collision along with the missing sailors was not as sympathetic, as reporters at the White House who informed Trump of the news said he responded with “That’s too bad.” Eventually, Trump went on to tweet “Thoughts & prayers are w/ our @USNavy sailors aboard the #USSJohnSMcCain where search & rescue efforts are underway.” The collision involving the USS John S. McCain is the fourth time a United States Navy warship has been harmed in the Pacific Ocean in 2017.
