Professor Michael Eric Dyson went head to head with Donald Trump diversity outreach surrogate Brunell Donald-Kyei on Thursday morning's [August 17] episode of "New Day," and after tossing a number of digs at each other, the segment culminated with Donald-Kyei labeling Dyson a "race baiter" after he called her "the manifestation of the lethal [sic] of the internalization of self-hatred, spoken loudly and amplified without regret.”

It was a heated 13 minutes between Dyson and Donald-Kyei, with host Poppy Harlow interceding to keep the discussion fact based and focused on President Trump's response to the attacks in Charlottesville last Saturday. At some point during the discussion though, the two sides had thrown so much mud at one another that Donald-Kyei began coming at Dyson and his liberal base as hateful and divisive, while Dyson charged her with being complicit in the manifestation of some of the inflammatory rhetoric spoken by the President.

CNN has had several exchanges between Trump critics and his defenders over the past couple of days. Most notable has been an exchange between Dr. Cornel West and Paris Dennard. West's criticism of Dennard wasn't much different than the criticism Dyson had of Donald-Kyei, with inference made towards questioning how much of their personal character gets sacrificed while protecting a leader with such low moral compass.
