13 people have thus far been confirmed dead and up to 50 were injured during a vehicular attack that took place in Barcelona on Thursday, August 17. By press time no group had taken responsibility and authorities were continuing to investigate for possible motives, but the incident does appear to have been terror related.

According to witnesses who were present in the busy streets of the Las Ramblas district, a stampede broke out as a white van careened onto the sidewalk and began running down pedestrians. Several people have attested to the car seeming to have deliberately targeted random victims, as it swerved through, chasing those who fled from danger into cafes and shops lining the boulevard. Reports indicate that an armed man or two had barricaded him/themselves inside of a nearby bar. Meanwhile, a van believed to be linked to the attack was recovered in the town of Vic, Catalonia. Thus far, one a suspect by the name of Driss Oukabir has been nabbed.

President Trump took to Twitter to express his condolences and to denounce the incident, writing, "The United States condemns the terror attack in Barcelona, Spain, and will do whatever is necessary to help. Be tough & strong, we love you!"
