Donald Trump got back to taking on Amazon this week, as he had promised when during a February 2016 stop along his Presidential campaign he told a crowd, "If I become President, oh does Amazon have problems." Trump took a swipe at the e-commerce giant on Wednesday [August 16], when he took to social media to accuse the company of being responsible for job losses in traditional retail.

"Amazon is doing great damage to tax paying retailers. Towns, cities, and states throughout the U.S. are being hurt - many jobs being lost!" the President stated via Twitter. The tweet actually had an immediate impact on the company, causing shares to fall as much as 1 percent in the pre-market trading session.

Trump's tweet comes two months after he blasted Amazon for "not paying internet taxes," and one month after Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin hinted at the likelihood of the administration soon addressing Amazon's tax collection policy by letter of the law. Trump has been attacking the company and its CEO, Jeff Bezos, for well over a year. In December he hardened his tone on Bezos, and unleashed a subtle threat with the prediction that Amazon would “crumble like a paper bag” if it ever had to pay “fair taxes.”
