With the recent events that unfolded in Charlottesville, Virginia, hate groups are on the rise. However, brands like PayPal are drawing a line in the sand and letting hateful groups know they are not supporting their habits or behavior in any way. The company noted in a blog post that they will be cutting off their services to users that collect donations for hateful acts or racial intolerance, especially after the events that unfolded last Saturday.

PayPal’s Senior Vice President of Corporate Affairs & Communications wrote “The events in Charlottesville are yet another disturbing example of the many forms that racism and hatred manifest. PayPal will — as we consistently have in the past — limit or end customer relationships and prohibit the use of our services by those that meet the thresholds of violating our policy.” PayPal’s response comes shortly after the Southern Poverty Law Center released a report saying hate groups may have used the platform to fundraise for the Charlottesville rally. PayPal currently has plans to remove 34 organizations from their website, including two groups that sell gun accessories to those with intentions of killing Muslim people.
