Everyone has offered their thoughts on the recent tragedy that occurred in Charlottesville, Virginia this past week. However, it seems that Barack Obama’s statements made the most impact, especially on Twitter. Obama’s tweet found him quoting Nelson Mandela’s autobiography, Long Walk To Freedom. In the tweet, Obama said, “No one is born hating another person because of the color of his skin or background or his religion..” The rest of his tweets went on to say “People must learn to hate, and if they can learn to hate, they can be taught to love. For love comes more naturally to the human heart than its opposite.” Obama’s following tweets received 1 million and 900,000 likes, while Trump’s initial first tweet addressing Charlottesville only received 186,000 likes.
