Recently news broke that a young man named Deandre Harris was attacked by white supremacists while attending an anti-hate rally that was taking place in Charlottesville, Virginia. According to photos and reports, Harris was jumped by a group of white supremacists who hit him with poles, injuring him and leaving him bloody. Because of that attack, he had to get stitches in his head and suffered a broken wrist and a chipped tooth.
Following the attack, the young man created a GoFundMe to raise money for the medical bills after the traumatic attack. In the description for his cause, Harris said, “If it was not for my friends that I came with I would have been beaten to a pulp. No law enforcement stepped in to help me. Once I was dragged off to some near by steps I was taken to the designated area for injured protesters & counter-protesters. My injuries were too extensive to be treated at the scene so I was taken to the ER at Martha Jefferson Hospital. I was diagnosed with a concussion, an ulnar fracture, and had to receive eight staples in my head.”
Since posting the GoFundMe, Harris’ page has raised over $100,000. The goal set on the page was for $50,000.
