New Jersey Senator Corey Booker introduced a bill that would legalize Marijuana nationwide. Called the Marijuana Justice Act, the bill is designed to "legalize marijuana at the federal level and encourage states to legalize it locally through incentives." The bill has virtually no chance of being passed in a Republican controlled congress and an administration that is decidedly against the legalization of marijuana but was still worth introducing according to Booker.

“You see these marijuana arrests happening so much in our country, targeting certain communities — poor communities, minority communities — targeting people with an illness,” said Booker. The bill would also expunge federal convictions for marijuana use and possession while prisoners serving time for such offenses would be granted sentence hearings. Booker cites the 8 states that have legalized marijuana as inspiration, seeing the positive results on the community and economy.
