The tension between the US and North Korea continues to heat up, as news arrived that US officials are allegedly concerned over a possible North Korea missile test launch that is set to take place today. This past Tuesday, the Korean Central News Agency reported that a threat was made to strike the United States in response to comments made last week by the Mike Pompeo, the CIA director. According to CNN, Pompeo said, “As for the [Jong-un] regime, I am hopeful we will find a way to separate that regime from this system. The North Korean people I’m sure are lovely people and would love to see him go.”

An anonymous U.S. defense official told the press that if a missile test were to take place, it would either be North Korea’s ICBM or an intermediate-range missile. The official also said the launch would “probably” take place on July 27—North Korea’s “Victory Day.” The celebration is commemorating the anniversary of the signing of the Korean Armistice Agreement. KCNA reported that Foreign Ministry spokesperson said: “Should the U.S. dare to show even the slightest sign of an attempt to remove our supreme leadership, we will strike a merciless blow at the heart of the U.S. with our powerful nuclear hammer, honed and hardened over time.”
