One year after reigning atop the list of Grammy Awards nominees, with contention in 11 categories, it was announced on Tuesday, July 25, that Kendrick Lamar will be up for consideration in the most categories at the 2017 MTV Video Music Awards.

K. Dot leads a pack that will offer multiple shots at a Moonman for the likes of D.R.A.M., DJ Khaled, Alessia Cara, Ed Sheeran, Big Sean and Bruno Mars. Katy Perry and The Weeknd come closest to the Compton rapper with five nominations respectively. Kendrick is up for eight awards.

The talk of this year's awards ceremony revolves around news that the event's organizers are abolishing gender categories. There will also be a "fight against the system" award incorporated in for artists whose music carries a conscious edge. Viewers can experience the music television network deliver a format could quite possibly pull other awards shows into the future, as it airs the annual celebration live from The Forum in Inglewood, CA on August 27.
