In July 2015, an unarmed black man named Sam DuBose was shot by former University of Cincinnati police officer Ray Tensing during a traffic stop. From there, the officer was tried twice with both resulting in mistrials. Now, reports are noting that the voluntary manslaughter and murder charges against Tensing are being dismissed.

The charges against Tensing were dismissed earlier this morning, and Judge Leslie Ghiz made it clear that she was dismissing the charges with prejudice, which means the charges are dropped permanently. Despite dismissing the charges against Tensing, Judge Ghiz did say she would unseal select documents related to the case. Tensing’s lawyer Stew Matthews commented on Tensing’s work status after the hearing, alluding to how he feels Tensing should be a cop once more. Matthews said, “I think he’s a good one.”
