An interesting rumor was recently shared by music sales tracking site HITS Daily Double. Apparently, there have been some serious discrepancies in the reported number of song streams coming from Tidal. Specifically, for the latest album from part-owner of the service, JAY-Z.

For Hov's 4:44, 122 million streams were reported to sales tracking service Nielson SoundScan, while a mere 54 million streams were reported to tracking service BuzzAngle--that's a difference of 68 million streams.

In another example, a couple of weeks ago DJ Khaled beat out Imagine Dragons for the #1 spot in number of streams. Once again, Nielson SoundScan reported 17 million more streams than BuzzAngle.

What's interesting is that both Spotify and Apple Music, who between them control 90% of the streaming market, reported the same numbers to both tracking services.

According to HITS Daily Double, there is a growing call among industry insiders to eject Tidal as a reporter to SoundScan.
