The family of 18-year-old Pedro Hernandez is currently working to raise $250,000 bail so that he can accept a full scholarship to college.

Pedro was arrested in the case of shooting another teen that left the victim injured. However, the victim said that Pedro was not the shooter and 8 other witnesses also said someone else committed the crime. The witnesses also said that the arresting officer threatened them with violence if they did not identify Pedro as the shooter.

Hernandez's family was able to raise $425 toward the bail since Monday afternoon, but he needs to be out of jail by September 1st in order to receive his scholarship. Hernandez's trial is set for September 6th.

Pedro could have accepted a plea deal with the district attorney that would have put him on probation for 5 years and after, his record would've been wiped clean. Pedro is insisting on his innocence.

"Everybody needs to stand together and say that our kids don't deserve a plea deal," they deserve a future," his mom, Jessica Perez told Pix11 News.
