University of Mississippi football coach Hugh Freeze stepped down Thursday night, July 20, immediately following information linking him to female escort services in addition to a pattern of behavior that undermined the university's values. Ole Miss Chancellor Jeffrey Vitter announced the news at a press conference Thursday night after Freeze confirmed the activity under question.

Vitter is quoted as saying, "while Coach Freeze served our community well in many regards during his tenure, we simply cannot accept the conduct in his personal life that we have discovered." ESPN reports that phone records from Freeze's university-provided cell phone revealed a "pattern of personal misconduct."

Hugh Freeze had roughly $2 million remaining on his contract for this coming season, $5 million in 2018, and $5.15 million in 2019. Freeze leaves Ole Miss with a 19-21 SEC record and an overall record of 39-25.
