A mayoral forum in St. Petersburg, Florida erupted in jeers on Tuesday, July 18, after a candidate for the city's top seat went off on a racist tangent, during which he told members of the audience to "go back to Africa."

The panel had reportedly been discussing the topic of support for youth services when long shot Paul Congemi suddenly veered off topic to throw a jab at rival Jesse Nevel and the supporters. "Mr. Nevel you and your people talk about reparations. The reparations that you talk about, Mr. Nevel, your people already got your reparations. Your reparations came in the form of a man named Barack Obama," Congemi said, before adding fuel to the fire by telling members of the International People's Democratic Uhuru Movement who were on hand that if they don't like it in America, "planes leave every hour from Tampa airport. Go back to Africa."

While Congemi claims to have organized a party of 105,000 followers, the retired builder only recorded a few hundred votes in the last mayoral election. 2017 marks his third attempt at winning the election.
