Jay Z's 4:44 debuted at #1 on the Billboard Top 100 chart just one week after its exclusive Tidal release. The album moved 262,000 equivalent units with 174,000 of them being traditional album sales. 4:44 had the fourth largest week this year behind Kendrick Lamar's Damn, Drake's More Life, and Ed Sheeran's Divide.

In addition to being the fourth biggest streaming debut this year, 4:44 becomes Hov's 14th album to debut at the top of the Billboard Top 100. Although Tidal didn't release 4:44's first-week streaming numbers to Nielsen, the RIAA announced that the album was certified platinum.

Ever since Vol. 2...Hard Knock Life (1998) every one of Jay's solo projects has reached the top spot. 4:44 improves his record for most number one albums by a solo artist.
