On Thursday, July 20, O.J. Simpson will attend a hearing before the Nevada Board of Parole Commissioners that will determine his future, and the public will get to watch it live on television.
Simpson has been behind bars since December of 2008 when he was arrested for his role in an armed robbery. He was found guilty of 12 counts in connection with the robbery and kidnapping, receiving a sentence of 9-33 years. Most lawyers and prison personnel close to the situation at Lovelock Correctional Center expect that his good behavior will get him free. Simpson has already been granted parole on numerous charges. Should he be granted parole on all remaining charges when he meets the four member Nevada Board panel, he will be free to leave prison in October.
According to one of Simpson's past lawyers, Yale Galanter, “He’s going to get parole." The attorney cites the fact that Nevada bases its release of prisoners heavily on behavior, and according to authorities Simpson has been a model citizen in prison. But the ruling can go either way and thus, Thursday's hearing is going to be suspenseful regardless of the scenario.
The proceedings are set to be aired by several networks beginning at 1 p.m. ET. Simpson will not be on hand in person but will be present via video conference call.
