Before his passing, the Notorious B.I.G. made moves to sign Cam’Ron to a deal, which ended up with the Harlem rapper writing verses for Lil Cease and Lil Kim’s song “Crush On You.” At the time, Ma$e was Biggie’s label mate, but according to Puffy’s former bodyguard Gene Deal, Biggie didn’t care for Ma$e too much and actually liked Cam’Ron better.

Via his Raw Deal series on YouTube, Deal spoke about a contract Biggie showed him, which led Biggie to reveal that he didn’t care for Ma$e. Deal said

“...At the time the contract was either for 62 or 6.2 million dollars. It had Junior Mafia, Lil Kim, The Commission, I think Tracy Murray—or Tracy something like Murray—and Cam’ron. He starts telling me about Cam’ron, he said ‘Yo, Cam’ron…’ He felt like Cam’ron was the best rapper from Harlem, you understand? He—n—a loved Cam’ron. He said he didn’t like Ma$e.” From there, Deal spoke on how Biggie would comment on Ma$e’s name change from Murda Ma$e, saying “Yo, how you change the n—a Ma$e? He was Murda Ma$e, now he just Ma$e. You know what I’m saying? They used to get on him like that, you know what I’m saying? They used to get on him like that. So, he felt Cam’ron was a better rapper and he had signed Cam’ron—or I thought he’d signed Cam’ron.” Watch above at the 28-minute mark.
