According to reports, an NYPD officer named Miosotis Familia was gunned down by a suspect named Alexander Bonds. The NY Post reported that the suspect ran up to the 48-year-old officer while she was sitting in a headquarters vehicle located in the Bronx on East 183rd Street and Morris Avenue. NYPD presence had been placed in the area since March 2017 because of a rise in gang activity. Police told the press that in the surveillance footage they obtained, the suspect “purposefully” went up to the vehicle and began to shoot at the passenger side of the vehicle where Familia was located. Upon being shot, Familia’s partner Vincent Maher called for backup to the scene. The police officers who arrived ended up finding and confronting Bonds, which led to them shooting the armed suspect. Along with Familia being shot, an innocent bystander was shot in the stomach according to reports. The bystander is in stable condition.

Familia was with the NYPD for 12 years and was assigned to the 46th Precinct in the Bronx. Familia leaves behind three children.
