Donald’s Trump Mexican border wall seemed to be a project that the President promised Mexico would pay for. However, that notion was shot down quickly by Mexico as a whole. From there, the project seemed to suffer from lack of funding. Now according to Ronald Vitiello, Customs and Border Protection’s acting deputy commissioner, 4 to 8 contractors are set to be selected for the eight possible prototypes for the border wall. Despite gearing up for selections, no contracts with any bidders have been signed. Vitiello told the Los Angeles Times “We’re evaluating proposals now. We think it’s summer. It’s kind of hard to nail down.”

Vitiello also noted that the goal is to have the walls built by September 2018 near the San Diego border. Almost 200 companies submitted their proposals for the wall, but the review process has only reached the second round at this point. According to a Department of Homeland Security report, the Trump Administration was looking to award the prototypes by June 12th, with a start date of construction for July 21, 2017. According to the L.A. Times, the estimated cost for the wall may be as high as $66 billion USD.
