A 13-year-old boy was among the 4 people killed by gun violence across Chicago on Monday. The weekend in the city saw another 4 people killed more than 40 injured in shootings.
13-year-old Deshawn Martin was shot to death Monday around 7:30 PM in the Washington Heights neighborhood of the South Side, Chicago police said. He was in a backyard close to his home when someone fired several shots which struck him in the chest. He was pronounced dead at 9:15 PM.
According to the Chicago Sun Times, at least 1,700 people have been shot in Chicago in 2017; 298 of the 1,700 were killed.
ABC 7 Chicago compiled a list of organizations dedicating preventing violence and helping individuals who've been affected by violence.
