The 2017 BET Awards saw many accolades given, and Chance the Rapper seemed to win big. Along with receiving the Best New Artist award, Chance ended up taking home the Humanitarian Award. According to the award show, the rapper positivity impacted both local and national communities. The rapper received an introduction from former First Lady of the United States, Michelle Obama & according to the former FLOTUS, she knew Chance for many years before his widespread fame.

The CEO of BET, Debra Lee presented the award to Chance and spoke on his work. Lee said "Tonight we honor a young man from the Chi and honestly I love everything about him. He created his own path to the charts and took that same creativity to help children. He's not afraid to speak out for people who can't speak for themselves." Chance the Rapper is the youngest person to become a recipient of the BET Humanitarian Award. Along with receiving that award, the rapper was nominated for Album of the Year, Best Collaboration, and Best Male Hip Hop Artist.
