It's no secret Serena Williams has dominated women's professional tennis. However, former tennis star John McEnroe believes had Williams played on the men's tour she'd be ranked drastically lower than she is now.

Over the weekend, while promoting his new memoir "But Seriously," McEnroe on NPR stated that if Serena played on the men's side, she'd be "like 700 in the world".

"On a given day, Serena could beat some players," McEnroe said. While the seven-time major title winner went on to call Williams an incredible player, he stated: "But if she had to just play the circuit — the men's circuit — that would be an entirely different story."

McEnroe went on to call Serena Williams the greatest woman ever to play tennis. However, he feels we haven't reached a time where women can beat men. “I just haven’t seen it in any other sport, and I haven’t seen it in tennis,”

Serena has taken a hiatus from tennis following the announcement of her pregnancy. Since turning pro in 1995, Williams has won 39 Grand Slam titles, 23 in singles, 14 in women's doubles, and 2 in mixed doubles. Williams has been ranked No. 1 eight separate times for a total of 319 weeks.
