DJ Self was one of the guests on hand when Safaree was ambushed outside of DJ Khaled's BET Weekend pre-awards party in Los Angeles on Friday, June 23. With all of the commotion that broke out, it might have been difficult to notice his proximity to the situation as it unfolded on video, but he was among those lingering outside of Penthouse Day Club when Meek Mill and his people hopped out of their ride and attacked. Apparently Self felt close enough to the situation that he saw a need to clear his name of any involvement, taking to social media the following day to address skeptics.

"Both parties are good friends of mine. I rock with both of them and I do not like to get in between peoples' beef, and if I do I like to squash it as opposed to provoke it," Self said in a recording he posted to Instagram. The Power 105.1 DJ dispelled the notion that he could have set the confrontation up, saying that he hadn't a clue that Safaree nor Meek would be there. He then pointed out that if anything, some might have noticed he intervened in an attempt to help cooler heads prevail.

"Hopefully these two brothers could get together, and um, you know, work it out. And if they can't, you know, at least co-exist with each other," said Self.
