Despite Prodigy's battle with the deadly sickle cell anemia having been well documented in his music and experienced first hand by friends and partners in the business, most have expressed shock and surprise that he is actually gone. While discussing his death on Ebro In The Morning Hot 97 host Peter Rosenberg made mention of it having never occurred to him or mutual friends he shares with P that one day they'd have to live-on without the legendary rapper being a phone call away. Even long-time collaborator and childhood friend Havoc is struggling to come to terms.

"I'm still just f**ked up. Like, I can't even listen to, you know, 'Shook Ones,' or any song. I hardly could look at the pictures, because I don't know how...I don't know, but, people that lost somebody they know what I'm talking about, but this is just a little bit more crazy," Havoc said in an interview with TMZ. Hav would try to articulate how difficult it has been for him to learn that he'll no longer see someone he's known since he was 15-years-old, but he appeared to be choking up when contemplating that now begins the process of moving on. "I still can't believe it. I just still can't believe it. I just can't," he concluded.

Havoc recalled being at his son's graduation ceremony when he learned of Prodigy's passing. He knew his friend had been in the hospital, but didn't think much of it, explaining that him lapsing in and out of crisis due to his illness was a fairly regular occurrence for as long as he'd known him. He'd make a call to their road manager just to get make sure he was hearing right, and couldn't handle the teary confirmation on the other line. After hanging up he was overcome with a haze, he explains, that had him fighting to keep focus on the road with his son in the back seat.
