Heading into his 20th NBA season, love for the game isn't the only thing that keeps 8 time All-Star Vince Carter coming back to compete in the sport many feel he's already earned Hall of Fame credibility playing. While guest appearing on ESPN's The Jump on Wednesday, June 21, Carter was asked in the middle of a segment on Kevin Durant, whether he himself would take less money to join Golden State for a chance to go down in history as a champion. The question was a no-brainer for the 40-year-old veteran.

"I’m open for it. I just wanna win. And I wanna play, and I wanna do what ... somewhat what Kevin Durant did. I wanna do for my team. I wanna go out there and play and provide, and show that I can still play this game," said Carter. But he'd only do so under the condition that he be incorporated as an active component of the team's success, saying, "It’s a lot going into it, and I’m just not one to go on a team and, like you said, ride the coattails. For me, you can say how old I am, whatever. I’ve proved that I can still play in this league. I don’t wanna go sit on the bench.”

Over the past two decades, Carter has played in Toronto, New Jersey, Orlando, Phoenix, Dallas, and Memphis, but has never scored a ring. When the curtain finally closes on his career he will go down along with the likes of Karl Malone, John Stockton, Patrick Ewing, Charles Barkley, Elgin Baylor, Allen Iverson, Steve Nash, Reggie Miller, Dominique Wilkins, George Gervin, and Dikembe Mutombo as one of the best players to never win it all.
