PnB Rock's growing fan base got to know him for his versatile rap style when XXL released his Freshman Class freestyle on Tuesday, June 20.

Much of this week's talk about the Philly rapper centered around him confessing to having a crush on Karrueche Tran, and approaching her in a pharmacy, only to be turned down. PnB's sharing of the incident on social media side tracked followers from continuing to celebrate the fact that he was recently named one of 2017's promising young artists by the hip hop publication.

This year's Freshman Class has been widely ridiculed for what critics believe is a lack of substantial material put out by a few of the artists named to the group, and for the fact that even those with a couple of hits to their name don't, as Vic Mensa said during his visit to Everyday Struggle: have bars.

PnB spits an a cappella that transitions stylistically, from a straight monotone delivery to a more melodic verse that shows PnB to brandish some pretty impressive singing skills. And while there is a lack of craftsmanship in his lyricism, there is a storytelling quality to his flow that lends it some integrity to the ears of purists who have found themselves wanting, with the newer, fickle, waves of rap that have come along to threaten traditional rap song writing's relevance in these times.
