It was reported last month that OJ Simpson would be getting a parole hearing sometime in July, and on Tuesday the Nevada Department of Corrections announced the date for the hearing: July 20.

Simpson, who's been incarcerated at Nevada's Lovelock Correctional Facility since 2008, was arrested in 2007 during a failed robbery in Las Vegas when he led several partners in crime into a hotel and casino to steal his own sports memorabilia at gunpoint. The former NFL running back was hit with several felonies, including kidnapping and armed robbery. He was found guilty and sentenced to 33 years behind bars.

Simpson faced a parole board in 2013, where he was granted parole but remained locked up because the parole only applied to some of his charges, and his prison sentences were set to run consecutively.

Tom Scotto, a friend of the former footballer, told ABC News that Simpson is "hopeful," and if freed he would want "to just keep a low profile, be with his kids, be with his family, play golf."

If Simpson is granted parole on July 20, he'll be released in October. If he's denied, the Nevada DOC will decide the date of his next hearing, which could be up to five years down the road.
