German Chancellor Angela Merkel this past weekend suggested that the United States as led by Donald Trump is no longer a reliable ally.
"The times in which we can fully count on others are somewhat over, as I have experienced in the last few days," she said. "And that is why I can only say, we Europeans must really take our destiny in our own hands. We need to know we must fight for our own future as Europeans for our destiny."
Merkel made the statements shortly after Trump failed to join the Paris Agreement, a worldwide effort to fight climate change.
