Many stars across the music world and beyond shared condolences and memories they had of legendary rocker Gregg Allman, upon receiving news that he had passed away on Saturday, May 27.

Allman is reported to have died of complications from liver cancer, in his Richmond Hill, Georgia home. In a statement issued by Allman's family, his passing is attributed to "many health issues over the past several years," which are believed to include a bout with Hepatitic C and failure to fully recoup from a 2010 liver transplant. One notable figure in his life who imparted a few heartfelt words on the news was ex-wife and mother to his son third son, Cher. “IVE TRIED…WORDS ARE IMPOSSIBLE GUI GUI," the 71-year-old diva tweeted. "FOREVER, CHOOCH."

Allman is known for co-founding The Allman Brothers Band, an iconic group that he fronted on vocals and keyboard for 45 years. While they enjoyed a resurgence in the 90's as a prolific touring band, playing until Allman's death, it was the earliest of The Allman Brothers' 18 albums that are recognized among the greatest in rock history, most notably for how they helped forge the Southern Rock sound along with bands like Charlie Daniels and Lynyrd Skynyrd. Their long drawn soulful jams, which were masterfully captured on their breakthrough At Filmore East album in 1971, would pave the way for everyone from ZZ Top to Kid Rock who would come after and incorporate similar rhythms and guitar leads while capturing the values, aspirations, and struggles of young southerners in the music.

Back in April Allman took to Facebook to share that his health status had declined, but expressed hope that he'd be able to make a return, writing, “I want to thank you for all the love that you are sending. Looking forward to seeing everyone again. Keep Rockin.”

Allman was 69-years-old.
