According to reports, masked assailants in Cairo pulled up in three SUVs to a bus that was packed with Christians-- including children and began firing on them. CBS News noted that at least 28 people were killed in the attack, and 22 were wounded as a result of the shooting.

Health officials on the scene said the shooting took place while the bus was en route to the St. Samuel Monastery that is located 140 miles south of Cairo in the Minya governorate. Around 8:45 am local time, 10 men with masks and assault rifles hopped out of their vehicles and began to shoot up the bus with bullets. From there, a few of the gunmen entered the bus and fired off shots at passengers, which included many children and women. The shooters fled the scene after the act, which led to Egyptian police setting up roadblocks in the area, as well as staging a manhunt.

A spokesman for the Health Ministry gave a statement about the death toll for the attack, saying that a number of people killed are currently at 28, but could rise. Only three children survived the attack according to local news outlets in Cairo.
