Federal authorities along with the Chicago police have rounded up and charged 50 members and associates of Chi-Town’s infamous Gangster Two-Six Nation. Members of the street gang are being accused of selling guns and drugs on the South Side and surrounding suburban neighborhoods.

Police informed the Chicago Tribune that their two-year investigation known as "Operation Bunny Trap", inspired by gang's rabbit symbol, allowed them to uncover gun and drug dealing inside a local pizza parlor along with many other illegal gun deals. One of the more well-known ones was a deal that reportedly took place this past January in the parking lot of a grocery store in the South Loop area.

The charges also reveal many other illegal transactions taking place in other South Side neighborhoods such as Chicago Lawn, Clearing, Chatham and Englewood. Suburban areas include Berwyn, Homewood and Alsip.

Authorities also tell the Tribune that the investigation, which began in late 2014, resulted in the seizures of around a staggering 120 firearms, including several shotguns and assault rifles. Police also obtained 25 rounds of ammunition, two ballistic vests, and drugs such as cocaine, fentanyl and crystal meth.

Police added that “27 defendants were charged in Cook County Criminal Court and another 21 in federal court.”

The Chicago Tribune also reports, “The probe, led by the U.S. Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, the ATF Chicago police, used extensive surveillance measures and purchases of narcotics by undercover officers.”
