A Texas middle school teacher is facing disciplinary action after presenting one of her students with a mock award that fell completely flat.

Lizeth Villanueva, a seventh-grader and honors student at Anthony Aguirre Junior High in Channelview, was the recipient of a "most likely to become a terrorist" award from one of her teachers.

The award was supposed to be a joke, and according to 13-year-old Lizeth, the teacher "just laughed" after presenting it only one day after the Manchester Arena bombing in England.

"I was upset and very mad when I saw the award," Lizeth's mother Ena Hernandez told the Washington Post. "I was surprised because my daughter has been doing well in the honors program."

Two separate honors classes were brought together for the mock ceremony, and three other teachers in the room also laughed as the various awards were handed out, said Lizeth.

A statement issued by the Channelview Independent School District said that the teachers involved "have been disciplined according to district policy and the incident is still under investigation."

Lizeth has yet to return to school because she feels "uncomfortable."
