Lebron James added an accomplishment to his case for G.O.A.T. by eclipsing the 5,987 all-time postseason points record that had belonged to Michael Jordan for 20 years leading up to Thursday's [May 25] Western Conference Finals closer.
James secured the record with a 3-point shot that came with 2:40 remaining in the third quarter. While he'd finish the night by contributing 35 points to the Cavs' 135-102 win, the significance of his having surpassed his idol was not lost on the King, who said after the game that MJ is the reason he suits up in the number 23, and that he, "fell in love with the game because of Mike, just because of what he was able to accomplish. When you're watching Michael Jordan it's almost like a god. So I didn't think I could be Mike."
While running to catch up on defense after making history, James would raise his index finger in a declaration of the feat. Amidst much debate in which Jordan is universally acknowledged as the best for his winning and scoring prowess, the #1 scoring classification for James instantly becomes a stat that his supporters will raise while discussing comparisons between the two NBA greats.
