According to Florida state officials, over one thousand names of concealed carry permit holders in the state may have been leaked due to a date breach that recently occurred.

The breach stems from an online payment system used by the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services, and the breach also exposed almost 470 customers' social security numbers. Along with that, the name of 16,190 concealed weapons license owners were exposed. The FDACS noted that the breach was traced overseas and that the Florida Department of Law Enforcement has taken over the case. A statement issued by FDACS said there was "risk of identity theft." Along with that, announcement said, "The social security numbers that may have been obtained had been entered in an online field where either a social security number or Federal Employer Identification number could be entered." The Office of the Inspector General for the FDACS noted through the announcement that, "Only concealed weapon licensees who renewed online may have had their names accessed." The office also said there is no risk of identity theft to those licensees.
