There was a pivotal period as the clock counted down from the fifth to the fourth minute of the 3rd quarter, during which time the tables slowly began to turn in the Game 4 Western Conference Finals Match-up in Cleveland on Tuesday night, May 23. The Celtics had been holding a commanding lead over the Cavs up until that point, with LeBron and the gang scoring their lowest point total of the playoffs in the opening quarter, before going into the half down by double digits.
By the 4:22 mark in the 3rd, the Cavs had hustled to come within 1-point of closing what was once a 16-point gap. Immediately after coming into possession of a rebound, Kevin Love slung the ball down court to LeBron, who was well in motion for a catch and dunk play. The Quicken Loans Arena crowd was in complete pandemonium, as were his teammates on the Cleveland bench. But James' attempt at notching yet another sensational moment in his future Hall of Fame reel, came up short, as he slammed a brick into the back of the rim that went flying into the air.
Shortly after the miss, Cleveland took the lead, and would never look back, finishing the game with a 112-99 win. Thus, LeBron couldn't be that mad about the embarrassing finish on the play, but he'll never be able to wipe it off of the internet before it's grabbed by meme makers with intentions to recycle it at any given time. If some of the reactions recordings of the attempted dunk have received, are of any indication, it'll be worth some LeBron haters' while to bookmark it.
