The founder & DJ of Boogie Down Productions, Dj Scott La Rock was celebrated Friday (May 19) by having a Bronx boulevard named in his honor.

The legend responsible for the helping with classic “Criminal Minded” album and introducing the world to hip-hop cornerstone KRS-One, was shot and killed in the Bronx almost 30 years ago.

For much of his youth, Dj Scott La Rock, real name Scott Sterling, lived in the Morrisania section of the Bronx. After graduating from Castleton State College in Vermont, Scott would return to the home as a social worker in shelters, eventually crossing paths with his potential band-mate, KRS-One.

Now the intersection of Jerome Avenue & Kingsbridge Boulevard will carry hs name. Ced Gee of Ultramagnetic MC’s, DJ Red Alert, Grand Wizzard Theodore, and his son, Scott La Rock Jr., were among those in attendance.
