Former Democratic congressman Anthony Weiner faced a sexting scandal that brought his time as a politician to an end, and now Weiner has pleaded guilty to one charge of transferring obscene material to a minor as part of a plea agreement with the U.S. attorney's office in Manhattan. Anthony Weiner turned himself over to the FBI early Friday morning. According to the FBI, Weiner was being investigated since January 2016. They noted that the 51-year-old was sending sexually explicit messages to a 15-year-old girl in North Carolina. The news of Weiner's actions arrived via the Daily Mail in 2016, with the article written by the publication saying that the former politician was exchanging messages with the girl since she was a sophomore in high school. According to the article, Weiner was well aware that the girl was a minor. Daily Mail went on to say that the girl and her father wanted to be interviewed "out of concern that Weiner may be sexting with other underage girls."

Although the charge has no minimum, Weiner could face up to ten years in prison. According to his plea, it is more than likely that Anthony Weiner will be registered as a sex offender. The jail time portion is set to be determined by a judge.
