The scammer lifestyle has seen a boost in the last few years, and now two people have taken their scamming exploits to the max, managing to scam two senior citizens out of almost $600,000 so they could buy expensive items and designer shoes. According to the police, one of the scammers, Tavoy Malcolm, bought expensive Louboutin pumps and drove around in a Mercedes Benz that was purchased with a dying woman's credit card. Because of Malcolm's exploits, a 77-year-old woman ended up losing her home. According to court documents, Malcolm and another person named Lorindo Powell scammed a 91-year-old woman. The elderly woman was caught up in the scam during the last four months of her life.

The duo only committed the fraud acts towards elders, managing to get away with it for years in New York. Authorities said the 26 and 29-year-old suspects had "a total lack of conscience." Their elaborate scams found them calling elderly folks and telling them that they either won money from the lottery or from a sweepstakes, and that in order for the elderly person to claim their prize, they needed to give up important information or pay taxes. The suspects are facing wire and bank fraud charges, and could be hit with up to 20 years in prison if convicted.
