Recently, the Trump administration fired former FBI Director James Comey, who was investigating the Trump administration for alleged ties to Russia and those that may have swayed the 2016 Presidential election. Because of the abrupt termination of Comey, Democrats asked that a special prosecutor be brought into the fold to investigate Trump's alleged interference with the FBI's investigation into the administration.

Since then, White House press secretary Sean Spicer has attempted to shift the focus off of the investigation. During a White House press conference, Sean Spicer said that there is no reason for a special prosecutor to get involved in the investigation of a link between Trump and the Russian government. Spicer went on to say, "This is a process that's working exactly as it should. There's frankly no need for a special prosecutor."

Spicer added more details to his explanation, saying, "If you look at what Acting Director McCabe said last week, he said they have the resources they need and their work continues. It's at what point, you have a House and Senate, a House committee, a Senate committee, the FBI. I don't understand why you need additional resources when you have three entities."
