For years rumors have been swirling about adding another movie to the “Friday” franchise. The classic, originally released in 1995 (and is also my favorite movie) spawned 2 sequels-- Next Friday (2000) & Friday After Next (2002). While the original featured Chris Tucker, who played a loud-mouthed drug dealer named Smokey alongside Ice Cube who portrayed Craig, the latter two introduced a wider audience to Mike Epps, who played Cube’s cousin Day-Day.

Epps just stirred the pot, throwing up this Instagram video of he & John Witherspoon, better known as Pops, who played Ice Cube’s father in each installment. It starts off with Epps asking, “Uncle Willie, have you heard anything about this new Friday?” Witherspoon replies, “Not really, have you heard anything?” Epps replies, “I aint’t heard s***.” “Now Day-Day, if you know somethin’, you better tell me cuz I’ma f*** yo’ a** up!” Witherspoon yells as Epps runs off.

Although this particular clip looks like it could be just a joke, as the saying goes, there’s always a little bit of truth in jest. Just last month, Witherspoon told Orlando’s Power 95.3 there will be another Friday movie.

Ice Cube has been vocal about wanting to do another Friday flick. In February, on an episode of his podcast Drink Champs, N.O.R.E. asked Cube about the rumored "Last Friday," which would round out the series. "That's what we want. We're still trying to get Chris to do it," Cube said. He went on to add "I hope so, I can't make Chris do it, but fans can hit him up."

As for Tucker himself—in October 2016 he told GlobalGrind.com “I don’t know if we can do another one...I don't know if we can do another one because I was so young and it was a moment in time."

That's not a hard no--it sounds like Tucker may be open to the possibility of reviving his role as Smokey, as long as the character evolves. How do you think we should be reintroduced to his character? What new comedians do you think could join the Friday franchise? What direction do you think a "Last Friday" film could take?
