A man who walked into a college campus coffee shop, wielding a machete and a couple of knives on Friday morning [April 28], was arrested after making terroristic threats and causing injury to two patrons.

Witnesses have detailed how chaos unfolded when 19-year-old Mitchell W. Adkins of Cincinnati entered the premise and began asking customers about their political affiliations. He is reported to have banged the long machete on a table before calling on everyone's attention and declaring "the day of reckoning has come." When he then asked the person nearest to him what political party they identify with, he was told "Republican," to which he responded, "you are safe."

"We started to scatter and then very, very quickly, campus security was getting everybody sheltered and secure," a Transylvania University student by the name of Tristan Reynolds told a local publication about the crowd's reaction to realizing they were in danger of attack.

Two women were treated by emergency personnel, with one taken to the hospital after suffering lacerations from Adkins' blade and the other attended to at the scene for having been struck by the machete's handle. Their injuries are said to have been non-life-threatening. Adkins too was hospitalized, for self-inflicted injuries. He has been charged with first-degree and fourth-degree assault, as well as three counts of first-degree wanton endangerment.
