A 66-year-old woman who New York Department of Corrections employees allegedly neglected to attend to as she waited hours to pay her son's bail, is citing a robbery of her money that she says they allowed to take place, in a lawsuit she's filed against the city.

In the suit, Linda Shapiro of White Plains details having spent seven hours at the Manhattan Detention Complex, occasionally pleading that the $30,000 she showed up with be taken off of her hands. She attests to having sat and paced nervously over being in possession of such a large sum of money. Albeit the Department of Corrections personnel named in the suit, recall feeling "annoyed" by Shapiro's persistent behavior, she was left to deal with the wait, as they vouched that there was some paperwork that needed to be completed in order for them to accept funds.

It was around 7 p.m. when two men then ambushed Shapiro in the bail office and put her down with a stun gun, before getting away with her purse in hand. “The DOC personnel did not come to her aid or attempt to help,” the lawsuit reads. Shapiro attempted to stagger after them, but they had driven off in a silver/black Lexus by the time she got out of the building. An assistant district attorney caught up to her outside shortly thereafter and helped get emergency respondents over to bring her to the hospital, where it was determined that she had suffered fractured ribs and injuries to her back.

Shapiro is seeking at least $1.4 million.
