One of the biggest stories in sports right now surrounds the massive layoffs that took place at ESPN earlier this week, when the iconic network reportedly let go around 100 of its employees.

One of the network's biggest names, Stephen A. Smith, was able to keep his job, much to the chagrin of a lot of people who thought he didn't deserve to stay. Former Sports Illustrated writer Jeff Pearlman was one of those who believed Smith should have been let go, and he explained why in a blog post on Wednesday (April 26).

Saying that the reason Smith kept his job was because "he's really good at yelling" and "making 20-second arguments over things he almost certainly really doesn't care about," Pearlman went on to say that the situation represents "the decline of good journalism."

Not one to take it lying down, Smith fired back at Pearlman's accusations during Thursday's episode of his radio program, "The Stephen A. Smith Show."

Pointing out the massive success of his show First Take, Smith then asked why Jeff Pearlman and others who shared his views were singling out Smith when there were many other TV anchors who were paid more for doing less. He also broke down his resume, which would seem to indicate he's definitely put in his time.
