Recently, news arrived that Serena Williams and her fiance Alexis Ohanian, the co-founder of Reddit are expecting their first child. Williams posted a photo to Snapchat and included the caption "20 weeks." However, Williams has now revealed that the announcement of her pregnancy via Snapchat was an accident. The tennis superstar spoke to Gayle King during a TED Talks Conference in Vancouver and explained how she accidentally made the reveal. Williams said the caption on the Snapchat photo didn't have much information because she was just using the app to track her baby progress. The tennis player said, "Well, actually it was an accident. I was on vacation just taking some time for myself, and I have this thing where I’ve been checking my status and taking pictures every week to see how far along I’m going." King pointed out how minimal the caption was, to which Williams responded "That's what I've been doing all this time. I've been tracking it, 18, 19, every week I just take a picture and save it. I've been so good about it; this was the one time that... I slipped. But it's ok."

Williams noted that she didn't tell too many people about her pregnancy, saying, "I didn't tell a lot of people to be quite honest, and I'd been saving it. On social media, you press the wrong button and.. Thirty minutes later I missed four calls, and I'm like, 'That's weird.'" Williams found out she was pregnant two days before Australian Open in January 2017.
