President Donald Trump has again batted down suspicions that his administration's immigration policy may be targeting the undocumented with DACA status, or "Dreamers," as they've come to be known. Remarking that the nation's Dreamers ought to "rest easy" on Friday, April 21, the President attempted to calm naysayers who point to a recent case that has many convinced that he is going back on his word throughout his election campaign, that he'd honor his predecessor's policy of protection for the group.

The Dreamers are those who've been identified as immigrants who were brought over the border when they were children. For years advocates plead for the government to pardon the young Mexican migrants from deportation, on the grounds that it wasn't their choice to violate the law, and thus, ought to be allowed to continue pursuing their dreams in the U.S. un-infringed upon by ICE officials. The term Dreamers was coined after President Obama signed the (D)eferred (A)ction for (C)hildhood (A)rrivals act protecting such youth in 2012. Trump reiterated on Friday that his administration is "not after the dreamers, we are after the criminals."

Trump's statement comes days after Juan Manuel Montes, who had received DACA status under Obama, was alleged to have been deported by ICE agents. It had initially been reported that his status had expired, prompting him to be sent back to Mexico, but federal officials have since recognized that his protection was actually set to expire in 2018. Now officials are maintaining that Montes left the country voluntarily. Montes vehemently denies this, and has since pledged to take the matter to court, filing a lawsuit earlier this week.
