As the Trump administration begins to cement its foothold in American politics, the policies of the president toward the immigrant communities have had widespread ramifications, both socially and economically. Los Angeles Police Chief Charlie Beck stated last week that reports of sexual assault and domestic violence have dramatically dropped due to fear that interaction with police or testifying in court could lead to deportation. Reports of sexual assault have dropped 25% since the new year started and a 10% drop for reports on domestic violence. Interestingly enough, these stats plummeted as the statistics for other minorities remained constant.

In 2014, the city ceased honoring requests from U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement to hold people in custody for possible deportation.
