Sanaa Lathan sounded off on the news surrounding the number of missing minors in the D.C. area, that has garnered a great deal of attention in the press over the past week, on Saturday, March 25. The actress was approached by a TMZ reporter for her thoughts on the situation, and when asked why she believes it took such a grassroots effort to get the story widely reported on, she attributed the reason to race.

"That's part of, you know, the conditioning of our country, unfortunately, with the press. There has been a certain type of race that gets all the attention. Now, finally, thank god because of social media people are saying 'You know what, we're all Americans. There are all races. There's pain that happens in every community and we um, you know, we have to look out for all of us,'" she said.

Lathan expressed being hopeful that the turnaround in how the crisis has been reported signifies that society will see a difference in how the African American community will be covered by media from this moment forth.
