The federal judge who prevented the latest incarnation of President Donald Trump's executive order to restrict the travel of refugees and travelers from several countries in the Middle East, is now receiving 24-hour security due to threats made on his life.

U.S. District Judge Derrick Watson became the most recent justice to draw national attention when he struck down Trump's travel ban from his seat in Hawaii, only hours before it was set to go into effect. "The illogic of the government’s contentions is palpable," Watson wrote in his ruling. As has continually been the case with public figures to counter the administration's policies, the President's loyal base immediately swayed their discontent towards Watson, with many having reportedly made death threats against the judge.

About a dozen U.S. Marshal deputies have now been ordered to travel with Watson. "The US Marshals Service is responsible for the protection of federal judicial officials, including judges and prosecutors, and we take that responsibility very seriously," the U.S. Marshal Service wrote of the task in a statement published by Buzzfeed. "While we do not discuss our specific security measures, we continuously review the security measures in place for all federal judges and take appropriate steps to provide additional protection when it is warranted."
