Spike TV viewers who have been impressed by the coming together of Time: The Kalief Browder Story will want to stay up to date with the progress of the next Jay-Z and Weinstein Company production, as the contractually bound tandem will soon begin filming on the second installment of projects that will come out of the two-year television and film deal they agreed to back in September. The next Weinstein/Jay-Z release promises to have viewers splitting their time between their living rooms and the theater, as it is reported that a six-part documentary series, created in the likeness of the Browder story, will go hand in hand with a feature film. The subject of the docuseries and movie? Trayvon Martin.

According to reports, the rapper/filmmaker team beat out several studios, including Fox Searchlight, Universal, and Ted Field for rights to the slain teen's tragic story. Harvey Weinstein, partner David Glasser, and Jay himself are said to have secured a verbal agreement after hosting a meeting with Martin's parents in L.A. during Oscar weekend. They have since won a bidding war for the rights to base the works on the books "Suspicion Nation: The Inside Story of the Trayvon Martin Injustice and Why We Continue to Repeat It," by Lisa Bloom, and "Rest in Power: The Enduring Life of Trayvon Martin," a memoir intimately narrated and produced by Sybrina Fulton and Tracy Martin.

Back when Weinstein's deal with Jay-Z was announced, he gave an indication that the focus of the works he had envisioned bringing to audiences would be a social one that gives a voice to the voiceless. “I’m excited to tell stories from real life prophets, whom through their struggles have changed the world for the better, and others whose stories are filled with fantasy and delight,” the rap mogul told reporters then. “I’m already passionate about what we currently have in the pipeline and I’m looking forward to discovering others.”
